About Department

The IIHFW, formerly known as SIHFW, was established by the State Government with financial assistance from the World Bank under India Population Project (IPP) – VI to serve as an apex Institute for providing training to health personnel. It was declared as an autonomous Institute and registered under the Registration of Societies Act and started functioning from 1992. In 1994, the Institute shifted to its present sprawling campus located in Vengal Rao Nagar, Hyderabad. IIHFW is a major public health training centre in South India apart from being a State Apex Training Centre in Department of Health, Medical & Family Welfare, Government of Telangana.

IIHFW is at the vanguard of covid-19 capacity building in our state. IIHFW is engaged in covid-19 prevention and control through the functions of capacity building, training, awareness generation, content development, monitoring, documentation and translation. The training programs are on a wide range of aspects, particularly standard operative procedures (SoPs), guidelines and advisories. These training programs reached out to medical personnel, para-medical staff and administrative functionaries in our state department of health, medical and family welfare apart from line departments directly or indirectly involved in covid-19 prevention and control like departments of home, women development and child welfare, GHMC, panchayati raj & rural development. IIHFW has adapted as well as created multimedia learning and awareness generation resources on covid-19 in different formats, namely GIFs, creatives, posters, booklets, short films, etc. IIHFWs covid-19 training is both classroom-oriented and virtual. IIHFW has also established a telemedicine call centre in collaboration with Hyderabad district collectorate and Tata Trusts which manages asymptomatic and mildly asymptomatic patients undergoing home isolation by capturing their health status and offering telemedicine consultation services. Consolidated data on the health status of such patients is disseminated to the concerned authorities at state level.
